I want to start with money IS the root of ALL evil.
I'm currently at my first job in Baltimore. The company I work for (no names because I'm not stupid) is a series of the most ruthless people I've ever come in contact with. It's not the girls I work the closest with in our office, but it's the "sharks" that are above us trying to pull our puppet strings and make us conform to their idealistic ways. My position as a receptionist is obviously at the bottom of the food chain, I am the shrimp. Well, myself and another co-worker are the shrimps. We catch the brunt of whatever mishaps come about, whether we had anything to do about it or not.
I've never given it too much thought on the type of bosses I've had. For those of you that do know me, my job situation in Savannah was much less than perfect. I have moved on from that bitterness that I held onto for almost 2years. I want to believe that people do mean well, even when they yell at you consistently. I do understand the hierarchy system at the workplace, it needs to be somewhat in place or the people will run-a-muck and no progress will happen. With that being said, I do not understand the attitudes that come from the upper man. I see no use in not giving a shit about your employees. I see no sense in screwing over your co-workers so you can make a few more dollars. In the end we are all people. We are all humans that have bills to pay and other things that we are responsible for.
So, what happen to the days when people actually cared about their neighbor? At what point did humans realize that putting others down so you can get ahead was a good idea. Where is the love? Compassion? Hell, do people even care anymore!? Or, is it get up go to work, make more money, fuck everyone else, sleep, repeat?
If this is the way of the world, I am swimming against the current. I will kick and paddle my way out of the sharks' mouth and into the warm pools of love. I want to surround myself with co-workers that do give a shit about me. People that care about the well-being of the workplace and share the same perceptions about how others are to be treated. If I learned anything from my southern-baptist raising, it was to "do unto others as you would have others do unto you."
